Description

This course is designed to enable students to acquire theoretical knowledge and practical skills required in the management of GIS for civil and environmental engineering project. The first part of this course looks at the terminology and definitions of a GIS. The process of how to design a system and how to capture data from both existing maps and new spatial data is covered. The course contains a short overview of the most popular software and hardware. The second part of this course deals with the planning, design, implementation and uses of a GIS. The map projection and coordinate system used to design a system will be identified. Topics addressed include data capture for the base mapping, aerial mapping. Digital orthophotos, remote sensing, and GPS equipment.
